Information and Care Sheet for the Red and Black Walking Frog
Red and Black Walking Frogs (Phrynomantis bifasciatus) are nocturnal ground dwelling frogs native to tropical and southern subtropical Africa. They are called walking frogs because they the lack the jumping ability of most frogs. During the dry season, they seek refuge in hollow trees or burrows in the ground.

Their diet consists of large insects such as crickets or mealworms.
Caging Requirements of a Red and Black Walking Frog
Housing/Habitat: They should be housed in a humid tropical terrarium landscaped with plenty of live or artificial plants. The terrarium should have an under tank heating pad at one end and a thick layer of soft, slightly moist soil. Hiding places such as bark or roots should be provided. The substrate must be changed frequently. The terrarium must be well ventilated. Ventilation can be controlled through the use of a screen aquarium top and a glass canopy partially covering the screen. Alternate dry and wet season should be simulated to mimic their native Africa.
Lighting: Full spectrum UV lighting will bring out the natural coloring of the frogs.
Temperature: Day 77° -85° Night 59°-68°
