Information and Care Sheet for the Tanzanian Green Reed Frog
Adult Tanzanian Green Reed Frogs (Hyperolius viridiflavus)
Reed Frogs belong to a large group of variable colored frogs native to Africa and Madagascar. The different species are found in varied habitats from open brush land, agricultural areas, wet and dry savannahs to rainforests.
Maximum size: 1.6”
Lighting: Full spectrum UV lighting will bring out the natural coloring of the frogs.
Temperature range: Day 77° –85° Night 59°-68°
Food: Small crickets coated in calcium and vitamin powder.
Water: A shallow bowl of clean, dechlorinated water should always be available. Mist twice daily with dechlorinated water.
Housing/Habitat: They should be housed in a humid tropical terrarium with orchid bark substrate and an under tank heating pad at one end. Landscape with moss, wood, and rocks to provide climbing and hiding places. The enclosure must be thoroughly cleaned every 5-10 days. The terrarium must be well ventilated and humidity should be kept around 80%. Ventilation can be controlled through the use of a screen aquarium top and an air pump to run fresh air into the terrarium. Humidity can be controlled with frequent misting and a glass canopy partially covering the screen.
