Information and Care Sheet for the Butterfly Agama
The Butterfly Agama (Leiolepis sp.) is native to Southern China, Indo-China and Sumatra. They are found in open areas where they live on the ground and like to dig deep burrows. Butterfly Agamas are territorial but can be kept in groups with one male per group as long as enough space, basking, and hiding places are provided. It is known for the beautiful patterns on its back and sides. It has yellow spots on its back, and small orange and black lines on its sides.

Feeding your Butterfly Agama
Crickets coated in calcium and vitamin powder. Bite size pieces of vegetable matter should be provided daily in a shallow dish or lid. Leafy greens, such as collard greens, kale, turnip greens, mustard greens, and dandelion greens are good choices and should be varied.
Caging for a Butterfly Agama
Housing/Habitat: An aquarium equipped with an under tank heating pad on one end and sand substrate that is deep enough to facilitate burrowing. The sand should be deeper at one end and the lowest layer of the sand substrate should be kept moist. Landscape to provide plenty of hiding places.
Lighting: Full spectrum fluorescent UV bulbs and a basking light are required.
Temperature range: Day 86°–95°F Night 76°-85°F
Water: A large, shallow bowl of clean water should always be available for drinking and soaking.
