Information and Care Sheet for the Smooth Front Caiman
The Smooth-fronted Caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus), also known as Schneider's Smooth-fronted Caiman, is a crocodilian reptile from South America. It is found in the Amazon Basin of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
Size of the Smooth-fronted Caiman
Babies are around 12 inches and the average adult size is between 6 and 8 feet.
Food for Your Smooth-fronted Caiman
Babies can be fed appropriate sized crickets, crayfish, fish, and rodents coated with calcium/vitamin supplement.
A Smooth-fronted Caiman Cage/Enclosure
Housing/Habitat: Caimans should be housed in a semi-aquatic environment with equal areas devoted to land and water. The aquatic area must be kept clean with a good quality filter and frequent water changes. A submersible aquarium heater will keep the water at the required temperature.
Lighting: Full spectrum fluorescent UV bulbs and a basking light are required.
Temperature range: Water 77°F Day 85°-90°F Night 75°F Basking 90°F
