Information and Care Sheet for the Green Anaconda
Green Anacondas (Eunectes murinus) are large heavy-bodied snakes. The Green Anaconda is dark green in color with black oval patches on its back. This drab pattern blends the snake in well with the wet, dense vegetations of its habitat. The sides have similar spots with yellow centers.
Young animals tend to be nervous but with frequent, gentle handling in captivity they often calm and make reasonable pets. Some experience with larger boas & pythons is highly recommended before acquiring a green anaconda. You must have a solid understanding of husbandry requirements in order to successfully maintain this species for any length of time.
Green anacondas are found throughout tropical South America. They are most commonly seen east of the Andes, mainly through the Amazon and Orinoco river basins, from Colombia and Venezuela to Northern Bolivia and South Central Brazil. Green anacondas are often found in swamps and slow moving rivers.
They typically live 20-30 years in captivity.
Size of a Green Anaconda
Females average 16+ feet while males average 8 - 10 feet long at adult size.
