Information and Care Sheet for the Honduran Milk Snake, HypoHonduran Milk Snakes (Lampropeltis triangulum hondurensis) are native to a large portion of Central America including Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. They are found in a wide variety of habitats and eat a wide variety of preys including snakes, lizards, amphibians, birds, and rodents. Milksnakes are well known for their tail rattling behaviors and their ability to consume Rattlesnakes. These snakes are very colorful and have become one of the most commonly kept snakes in captivity. Most Milksnakes must be housed singly because they consider other snakes as possible prey. Genetics: In the Albino Tangerine morph, the black bands in the Honduran Milk Snake are replaced with white bands (Albino) and the red bands are an awesome orange/tangerine color. Size of a Hypo Honduran Milk SnakeBaby Honduran Milk Snakes are 10 to 14 inches and quickly grow to reach an adult size of 3 to 5 feet. Feeding a Hypo Honduran Milk SnakeHonduran Milk Snakes can be fed on an appropriately sized mouse or rat once every week. The food offered should be roughly the thickness of the snake at the centre of its length. Milk snakes are best fed at dusk or after nightfall. Caging Requirements for the Hypo Honduran Milk SnakesHousing/Habitat: Provide a substrate of aspen or wood mulch at least 2" deep. A small, heavy bowl of fresh water and shelter, such as a hollow log or concave rock or plastic "cave" are the three essential pieces of cage furniture.
