Information and Care Sheet for the African Rock Python
The African Rock Python (Python sebae sebae) is a non-venomous python species found in subsaharan Africa. This is one of the world's largest species of snakes. The color pattern is typically brown, with olive and tan irregular blotching, fading to white on the underside.
African Rock Pythons have a lifespan of 30 or more years in captivity.
Size of an African Rock Python
Adults typically reach lengths of 16 feet. Hatchlings are typically 14 to 18 inches long.
Feeding an African Rock Python
Appropriate sized rats once per week.
Caging Requirements of Your African Rock Python
Housing/Habitat: The enclosure must be large enough for the snake to move between a cool and a hot side in the enclosure. Newspaper or cypress mulch work well for the substrate. Provide hide boxes on the hot and cold sides of the enclosure.
Temperature: 78 to 80 degrees with a basking spot of 88 to 92 degrees.
Humidity: Provide a humidity box.
Lighting: No supplemental lighting is required.
